The week started off with a bang on Monday. We did two school shows in the morning, and then performed "Ran Kan Kan" for a group of Lilly staff members at the IUPUI Hospital as they unveiled a new logo nicknamed "happy dancer." Lilly is one of our sponsors, so it was a thrill to perform for them.

The dancers worked extremely hard this week on the upcoming show. We ran the men's piece, I Never Danced For My Father every day but Friday for Laura Glover, our lighting designer, and I was able to make finishing touches to it. It is always a thrill to show my new work to Laura. She has been a working colleague for the past 16 years, and she knows my work intimately. One of the wonderful things about collaborating with fellow artists is that they surprise you with observations and suggestions. It all adds up to a grand creative experience that you could never have working by yourself. |

Dear friends: It hardly seems possible but here we are at the last show of the season, Fathers and Sons at the Indiana Repertory Theatre May 15-18. I have been busy working on my newest work I Never Danced For My Father. It features the four men in the company at present dancing to some pretty fantastic percussion music by my friend Scott Deal. Scott is a new professor at the IUPUI School of Music, and the score is very exciting and perfect for the piece. In addition, we will be breaking new ground by showing short excerpts from video interviews that were done with the dancers’ fathers. You will get a chance to know both father and son as the piece progresses. |

I spent all afternoon yesterday in the studio of my friend James Moriarty of Moriarty Media. We got down to the task of editing the video interviews with the fathers of the male dancers which were recently conducted and which I am using in my new piece "I Never Danced For My Father." It was a great deal of fun picking the segments that I wanted to use, and then watching James splice, correct, fade and color on his computer. What an amazingly creative process, and it's all there at your fingertips and the click of a mouse. And it happens instantly, quite the opposite of the choreographic process, where movements must be discovered second by second. |

I'm sure that everyone who attended our Kaleidoscope of Dance fundraiser last night at the Marriott downtown is till recovering today from a truly great and fun party. We had about 350 guests in attendance, some of who were decked out in outfits ranging from mild to outrageous '70's garb. Polyester and hair were in abundance. The Dance Kaleidoscope dancers performed a relentlessly upbeat "Ran Kan Kan," and received an immediate standing ovation. Longtime company member Shane Patton was honored for 10 years of dancing with the company. He was presented with a gorgeous ring with the DK logo on it designed by Aronstam jewelers.
