Back To Work - April 5 PDF Print E-mail

After a week of well deserved rest, the dancers returned to work this week.  After an intense performance, and the weeks leading up preparing for it, it really is necessary to have some "down time." The body gets a chance to heal, and the mind and spirit is refreshed so that we may "start all over again" on another show. The first thing we started rehearsing was "Ran Kan Kan' or the Fire section from "The Four Elements." We are performing this at our annual fundraiser Kaleidoscope of Dance on April 12 (Sat). This year the theme is "The Disco Ball' and should be lots of fun as people raid their closets for some '70's garb to wear to the event. If you would like to attend, please call the office 940-6555. Remember that all monies raised go into the DK general operating fund, and make it possible for us to stay in business.

I also started work on my new piece, using the men of the company. I was able to finish solos for George, Tanner and Matt. I am using original music by Scott Deal, a colleague whom I just met. Scott recently moved here from Alaska, and teaches at IUPUI. His music is ideally suited for what I had in mind. I'll talk more about the piece as it develops. Also, we were able to start work on "Seasons" which is going to be the main part of the next concert. Seeing it again brings back many memories. In some ways it really defined who I was as both artist and person when I created it in 1993. Of course it will be different with different dancers in the roles, but something about the structure of the original makes it possible for me to both inhabit and witness the wondrous journey that we are on. And for this I am extremely grateful.
