David's Blog

We spent the week getting through learning most of the choreography for Food of Love and Play Mas'.  The dancers were pretty adept at picking up the steps, and by the week's end we were able to do "stumble thrus" of both pieces.  For me the choreography for a piece is like a time capsule, and watching it and working on the movement takes me back to the time when it was created.  I was surprised that I remembered some small details of the steps and was able to explain their execution to the dancers.  It really is going to be a fun concert!  We also went out and did a school show on Tuesday all the way to Hope, IN.

On Wednesday, Stephan Laurent professor of dance at Butler University was my guest on "Conversations with David."  He was a fascinating and knowledgeable guest, and we talked about his life, career and teaching.  We also talked about the "crossover" between ballet and modern dance, and showed a film of Jiri Killyian's beautiful and poignant "Svadebka."  The evening was a huge success.
