The French Connection is shaping up rather well. I saw a run-through of Cynthia Pratt's piece "Tangled Web" on Friday and was completely bowled over by it! The dancers are so beautiful in it, and Cynthia has crafted a really riveting and compelling work. It's also a little shocking, and is sure to provoke some discussion amongst our patrons. It is truly an example of the best kind of artistic experience that stimulates and broadens our scope of experience and perception.
On Wednesday at "Conversations with David" the dancers performed "The Dance Show" to a mixed audience of adults and children. The response was very lively as we all learned that dance was "shapes moving through space to a beat." I'm very happy that some of our regular patrons got a chance to experience our educational show, and to see how we take the experience of contemporary dance out to the schools as part of our educational outreach. The discussion afterwards was also very spirited as we talked about ways and means to keep the arts alive and vibrant within our education system. |
