What a weekend! PDF Print E-mail

The performances this past weekend at IRT were stellar.  On opening night, the onstage haze triggered one of the fire alarms and we had to stop the performance.  After partially evacuating the theatre and realizing that it was a false alarm, the audience returned to their seats.  Waiting for the show to start again seemed interminable, so I went onstage to "entertain the troops" with stories from my Martha Graham days. Eventually, all of the systems were powered up, and we were able to start again.

We received standing ovations every night at the curtain calls.  So many accolades from the audience.  The word that I heard most often was "fantastic."  And I think that that described the performance in the best sense of the word, because each of the four pieces was a world onto itself, into which the "fantasy" of the creator (choreographer) became fully and beautifully actualized in front of the audience.  The dancers were stunning in their diversity and commitment to each moment of each piece, fully meeting and triumphing over the demands of the work.  As the artistic director, I was so proud of them, and of our organization which has weathered many a storm to be where we are today.  And now, onward to the next!
