The dancers worked extremely hard this week on the upcoming show. We ran the men's piece, I Never Danced For My Father every day but Friday for Laura Glover, our lighting designer, and I was able to make finishing touches to it. It is always a thrill to show my new work to Laura. She has been a working colleague for the past 16 years, and she knows my work intimately. One of the wonderful things about collaborating with fellow artists is that they surprise you with observations and suggestions. It all adds up to a grand creative experience that you could never have working by yourself.
We also were able to spend some much needed rehearsal time on Seasons. It is such a vast, sprawling work that sometimes I can get overwhelmed with having so much to correct, finesse and perfect. So it was great to be able to spend some time zeroing in on certain sections which I felt needed attention, and which inevitably benefited from the work that we did. By the end of the week when we did a run through of the entire piece, I was able to truthfully say to the dancers the we had made much progress. |
