The week started off with a bang on Monday. We did two school shows in the morning, and then performed "Ran Kan Kan" for a group of Lilly staff members at the IUPUI Hospital as they unveiled a new logo nicknamed "happy dancer." Lilly is one of our sponsors, so it was a thrill to perform for them. Our "Conversations with David" on Wednesday night was packed! People came to hear the male dancers in the company talk about themselves, their lives and their families. The conversation turned really poignant at a certain point when George Salinas started talking about his father and his family's disapproval of his being a professional dancer. It was a wonderful sharing of stories, feelings, opinions and insights, and everyone left feeling that they had gotten to know the dancers a bit more intimately. On Thursday, we had studio dress for Fathers and Sons. I was pleased with the costumes for the new piece. Cheryl Sparks created simple flowing and elegant trousers in earth tones for the men. Seasons also went well. It is a huge piece, with costume changes throughout. If the dancers are not onstage, they are in the wings changing costumes! It will be great seeing it again, and experiencing the seasons as metaphors for different stages of life. See you in the theatre! David |
