The culmination of this week's rehearsals was our studio dress for World Music Carnaval on Friday. We also had runthrus of the New Year's Eve pieces on Wednesday and Thursday. Sean Newhouse, the conductor of the ISO show came to watch on Wednesday. He said that he liked the pieces very much and as always was impressed with the dancers. It felt good to show it to him after we had spent so much time and effort working on it. The studio dress went well, apart from the fact that Mariel was injured and could not dance fully. We had done a costume runthru of Food of Love a week earlier in preparation for the Bloomington fundraiser, but I had to stop and explain all of the costume changes in Play Mas' to the dancers, and there are many! Both pieces are a riot of color, and I am anxious to see how the audience reacts to them in the theatre. The dancers are off on a two week break for the holidays and return to work on December 28. Happy holidays to all! |
