First of all I would like to say many thanks to all of those who responded to our appeal for donations. Your support is truly appreciated by all of us in the Dance Kaleidoscope family, and we are exceedingly grateful to be able to keep on dancing!
The dancers came back on Monday after being off for four weeks. It was good to see everyone again, and to be back to our regular routine. We are concentrating for these two weeks on putting Romeo and Juliet Fantasy and some excerpts from Super Soul back together for our performances in Ashland at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Because three dancers have left the company since these pieces were done, there are some new dancers going into certain roles. It is always interesting to see how a new dancer changes the "feel' of a piece in sometimes subtle and sometimes bold ways. Each dancer brings his or her own set of experiences and personality to any particular role.
By Wednesday the dancers were very sore from rehearsing, something that always happens when we start work after having time off. But by Friday, everyone had learned their parts and we were able to do "stumble-thrus" of both pieces. Next week we will be finessing and polishing the dances before we leave for Oregon on July 23. We are all excited about this!
David
