
Conversations with David is a lecture/discussion series hosted by DK artistic director, David Hochoy. Monthly during the season, David brings his expertise, unique perspectives and good friends to the IRT’s Cabaret to discuss DK and the world of contemporary dance. Discussion, questions and feedback are expected and specific topics vary monthly. DK serves complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages.
October 26, 2011: Topic - Martha Graham
David will share more insight from his time dancing with the Martha Graham Company, and of his friendship with Martha Graham. He will show the video Revolution and Revolt.
November 3, 2011: Life as a Dancer/Life of a Musician
Location - Clowes Hall, Butler University Campus
David will interview Luna Negra Dance Theater Artistic Director, Gustavo Ramirez-Sansano, 2-3 dancers from Luna Negra and 2 members of Turtle Island Quartet. (They will perform at Clowe's Hall on Friday, November 8.)

December 7, 2011: Guest - Laura E. Glover, DK's resident lighting designer
Learn about what goes into lighting dance - you may be surprised at some of the special requirements. For example, have you ever heard of a shin buster? Laura has said of lighting dance, "I light moving sculpture." This is sure to be an interesting evening.
January 25, 2012: Guest - Cheryl Sparks, costumer
Cheryl has been making dance costumes for DK for over 20 years. Learn about her creative process with David, and then the many technical requirements in building clothes that allow dancers to move well. Cheryl is a charming, passionate person, so this will be a treat!
March 7, 2012: Guest - Michael Toulouse, Programming Director from radio's Fine Arts Society and Guest Choreographer Norman Walker
David will interview Michael about his on-air history in Indianapolis, his love of music, and Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. That piece of music will be featured in DK's March 29 - April 1 concert, All the World's a Stage. Also, guest choreographer Norman Walker will discuss Shakespeare in the arts and his own work on the upcoming DK concert.
April 11, 2012: The Arts in Sacred and Secular Life Today
Guests: Dr. Matthew Boulton, President of Christian Theological Seminary. David will interview Dr. Boulton about his life and career. Learn more about him here.
May 16: Guests: Experts on Cole Porter from the IndianaHistorical Society
Learn about Cole Porter's life in Indiana and beyond. Guests will shed light on the era and life of the man as he was composing music that remains popular 75 years later. Cole Porter's music will be featured in DK's June 7-10 concert, COLE!
