New Dimensions header

New Dimensions will feature innovative choreography from three different artists.

October 24-27, 2014
OneAmerica Stage at Indiana Repertory Theatre

iconoGlass (1998)
iconoGlass is inspired by the relentless pulse found in the music of Philip Glass. David Hochoy’s choreography creates landscapes of shapes, speed and patterns of movement. This demanding piece is truly one of the jewels from DK's repertoire.

Riverboy (2012)
Think Norman Rockwell and Aaron Copland on a late summer day and you get a sense of choreographer Christopher Dolder’s Riverboy.  Dolder, who was raised in rural Northern California along the Feather River, takes us on a nostalgic trip down memory lane filled with the bucolic images of a carefree youth where laughter, play, and first love were all that mattered in the world. Former soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company, Christopher Dolder has spent the last 15 years choreographing and performing with his wife in their company, Westwick/Dolder Dance Theater. He is a professor of dance at SMU's Meadows School for the Arts.

The Whole Against the Sky (2013)
Students from Butler Ballet will perform this moving piece choreographed by Cynthia Pratt.
"Once the realization is accepted that even between the closest human beings, infinate distances continue a wonderful living side by side can grow if they succeed in loving the distance between them which makes it possible for each to see the other whole against the sky."  —Rainer Maria Rilke

Farewell (1988)
A woman says goodbye to two men she has known her whole life. The encounters are remembered and veiled in the mist of poignant recollection. This is the first piece David Hochoy choreographed while still working with the Martha Graham Dance Company in New York City.

An American in Paris (World Premiere)
David Hochoy will choreograph An American in Paris, a symphonic tone poem by the American composer George Gershwin. Inspired by the time Gershwin spent in Paris, it evokes the sights and energy of the French capital in the 1920s.

Rhapsody in Blue (2006)
A truly American classic that stylishly weaves jazz and classical music into an unforgettable event. "I heard it as sort of a musical kaleidoscope of America," said composer George Gershwin.

this piece, David creates the mystery, sensuality and spatial design that are trademarks of her painting.

Respighi's beautiful interpretation of Renaissance music themes was David's inspiration for this piece. There is no plot—just beautiful music. The choreography is influenced by ballet, the society of European royal courts and contemporary dance.

Electric Counterpoint (2011)
Set to a jazz guitar score by Steve Reich, this piece uses continually flowing movement like ocean waves. The effect is hypnotic and uplifting.
