Cole!

Cole!

COLE! is a celebration of Indiana's favorite son, Cole Porter.  First choreographed in 1997, artistic director David Hochoy's buoyant COLE! immediately became an audience favorite.

Act one, called Ole King Cole, uses old recordings of Cole Porter's songs. The static and scratches from old records helps create a vintage setting for David's clever choreography.

Act two, Cole Soul, uses recordings sung by contemporary singers. This lends a more contemporary interpretation of these classic songs.

All the World's a Stage

Stage-header

Shakespeare has never been so cool!

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.
As You Like It Act 2, scene 7, 139–143

David Hochoy is choreographing a new, thoroughly contemporary take on the classic Romeo and Juliet. He will contrast Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture with striking movement.

Guest choreographer Norman Walker is creating a new dance for DK, set to Shakespeare's Sonnets and music by Indianapolis composer Frank Felice. This concert promises to be an exciting, fresh look at William Shakespeare's most beloved play and his glorious poetry.

Super Soul

Super-Soul page-rev

Get your groove on!  Super Soul: Motown & More is a perfect way to kick the winter blues and to get the energy going in Indy for the Super Bowl.  Your foot will tap as your heart beats to the rhythm of many familiar songs from a time not so long ago.

Three choreographers have created world premieres: David Hochoy, Cynthia Pratt and Nick Owens have very different styles of movement and creative ideas, so each piece will be unique.

Check back closer to the concert for photos and video from rehearsals!

The Four Elements (Redux)

The Four Elements - October 6-9, 2011

The Four Elements (Redux) is one of artistic director David Hochoy's masterpieces from DK's repertoire. First performed in 2005, this choreographic work remains an audience favorite. Using a broad kaleidoscope of music, each of the elements is beautifully interpreted though dance. From free-flowing Water, to moving Air currents, to the power of the Earth, the stage is alive with movement. The Earth section is also performed in another Hochoy work, The Planets.

Stephen MyerDK is pleased to welcome APA Fellow, pianist Spencer Myer. Currently living in New York City, Spencer Myer’s orchestral, recital and chamber music performances have been heard throughout North America, Canada , Europe, Africa and Asia. He will accompany the Water section with selections of Chopin.
