DK Presents…The Dance Show*(Young Audience education program)The basic definition of dance (shapes moving through space to a rhythm) is explored in an eye-catching demonstration with Indianapolis’ own Dance Kaleidoscope. Dancers explain and perform the elements of dance to a wonderful array of music, capturing student imaginations and creativity. Students may ask questions after the demonstration. Grades: K-6 Everyday We Write a Dance*(Young Audience education program)Since ancient times, humans have passed on their cultural values and history through dance. This residency explores, through dance, how the fabric of everyday life becomes part of a community’s tradition. Based on a Native American story (Beardream by Will Hobbs), students use creative and critical thinking skills to combine elements of the story as they create their own community dance. Literacy, reading and connections to literature are important aspects of this residency. After two workshops, students will have a greater awareness of the creative process, how powerful movement is in communication and the role of dance within a community.
